Group Picks turns Edge Model's Bayesian football predictions into a social competition. Create a group for a specific league, invite friends via a shareable link, and each person submits their own Home / Draw / Away predictions for upcoming fixtures before kickoff. Picks are hidden until the match starts, then revealed to the whole group and scored. The leaderboard tells you who is beating the model โ and who is not.
This guide covers the full flow from registration to your first pick. It takes about three minutes.
Step 1 โ Create a free account
Click the account icon in the header (top right). The account modal opens on the Sign in tab โ click Create account to switch to the registration form.
-
1Enter your email addressA live hint confirms when the format is valid. Edge Model stores your email only for account identification โ it is never sold or shared.
-
2Choose a password (8+ characters)Enter and confirm your password. The Create account button enables only when the email is valid, the password meets the length requirement, both fields match, and consent is checked.
-
3Check the consent box and click Create accountYou confirm you have read the Privacy Policy and Terms, and that you are 13 or older. The modal closes and your session begins immediately.
Once signed in, your preferences sync to the server automatically โ the last competition you loaded, your favourite teams, and your active tab all restore on any device when you sign in there.
Step 2 โ Load a league and open the Picks tab
Group Picks is scoped to a specific league. Click ๐ League in the header, select a competition (for example, the Premier League 2026-27), and load it. Once the league is loaded, click the Picks tab in the league tab bar.
The Picks tab shows your personal pick history at the top and the Group Picks section below. If this is your first time, the section will be empty with a Create Group button and a Join a Group code input.
Step 3 โ Create a group
Click Create Group. A small modal appears with a name field.
-
1Enter a group nameSomething recognisable to your group โ "Office League 26-27", "The Lads", "WC2027 Preview". The name appears on the leaderboard and in each member's group list.
-
2Click CreateThe server generates a unique 8-character invite code for your group and returns you to the group view. You are automatically the creator and first member.
A group is tied to the league you had loaded when you created it. If you want a separate Group Picks challenge for a different competition, load that competition first, then create a new group.
Step 4 โ Share the invite link
Inside the group view, you will see the group name, your invite code, and a Copy invite link button. Click it โ the URL edgemodel.tech/join/XXXXXXXX is copied to your clipboard.
Send that link to anyone you want to invite. When a recipient clicks it:
-
โIf they are already signed inThey are added to the group immediately and the group view opens. A real-time update appears in your open tab โ the new member appears in the member list without a page refresh.
-
?If they are a guest (not signed in)The invite code is saved automatically. The sign-in / registration modal opens. Once they create an account or log in, the join completes automatically โ they do not need to click the link again.
There is no admin approval step. Anyone with the link can join. If you share the link publicly, anyone who finds it can join your group โ keep this in mind for private challenges.
Step 5 โ Submit picks before kickoff
Once you are in a group, the Picks tab shows all upcoming fixtures for the loaded league with three radio buttons each: H (Home win), D (Draw), A (Away win). Select your prediction for each fixture and click Save.
Pick timing rules
- Picks can be submitted or changed at any time before the fixture kicks off
- Once the kickoff time passes, the pick is locked โ no further changes
- If you miss a fixture, that fixture simply scores as zero for you
- You do not need to pick every fixture โ submit what you are confident about
Other group members can see that you have submitted a pick for each fixture, but not what that pick is. The actual H, D, or A choice stays hidden until kickoff.
Step 6 โ Watch the leaderboard update
After each fixture kicks off, picks for that match become visible to the whole group. Correct picks are marked with a green tick; incorrect picks are marked with a red cross. The leaderboard at the top of the group view ranks all members by their total correct picks across all revealed fixtures.
The Edge Model itself appears as a synthetic player on the leaderboard. Its picks are the outcomes the Bayesian model considered most likely for each fixture โ essentially the model's own prediction in H/D/A form. Beating the model consistently over a full season is harder than it sounds.
Group members' picks update in real time across open tabs โ if a teammate submits a pick while you have the page open, the "submitted" indicator appears without a page refresh.
Joining a group someone else created
If someone shares an invite link with you and you already have an account, clicking it joins the group and opens the group view. If you want to join using just the 8-character code (without the full link), enter it in the Join a Group input in the Group Picks section of the Picks tab and click Join.
If you already belong to groups, the Group Picks section lists them all. Click any group name to open the full group view โ picks, member list, and leaderboard.
A note on privacy
Your picks are visible to other members of the same group after each fixture kicks off. Your email address is never shown โ only the first part of your email (before the @) appears as your display name on the leaderboard. Pick data is stored server-side on the cloud volume alongside league state and is not shared outside the group.
